Vermont High Risk Auto Insurance
Auto liability insurance is mandatory in the state of Vermont. There are a number of different companies that offer high risk insurance in the state of Vermont. Some of these are Esurance, Geico, Direct, Hartford, State Farm, and Travelers.
In an effort to protect drivers and provide for financial responsibility in the event of an auto accident, Vermont has set some minimum coverage limits on auto insurance that must be maintained at all times. These coverage requirements are as follows: Bodily Injury Liability of $25,000 per individual up to $50,000 per accident, Property Damage Liability of at least $10,000, and to provide extra protection, the state also requires uninsured/underinsured coverage of at least $50,000/$100,000 for bodily injury and $10,000 for property damage.
Vermont uses the tort system of handling accidents, meaning that one driver will be found to be responsible for causing any accident and held financially responsible for the medical bills and repair costs incurred by other parties as a result of the accident.
Drivers are required to carry proof of insurance in the vehicle at all times. If stopped by a law enforcement officer and unable to show proof of insurance, a driver will be given 20 days to provide adequate proof of insurance to the court without penalty. Failure to provide such proof or to have a valid policy in effect will incur a $100 fine and a possible revocation of driver's license until proof of high risk auto insurance on the driver personally is provided.
