Washington High Risk Auto Insurance
Many Washington insurance companies can provide high risk auto insurance. A partial list of these insurance providers would include Geico, Progressive, Esurance, Nationwide, State Farm, and Liberty Mutual.
Washington has enacted laws that require all vehicles to be covered by certain minimum liability insurance. These minimum amounts of coverage needed to be legal are Bodily Injury Liability of $25,000 per individual and $50,000 per accident, and Property Damage Liability of $10,000. By law, underinsured or uninsured motorist coverage is offered to all drivers. If a driver decides to purchase it, it be more than the amount covered for bodily injury.
The state of Washington follows a tort system for dealing with accidents. Whenever an accident occurs, one driver will be found to be at fault and this driver and his/her insurance will be held responsible for paying all of the medical and repair costs arising from the accident for the other parties.
Drivers in Washington are required to carry an insurance identification card in the vehicle at all times that contains the following information: insured driver's name, insurance company, policy number, effective dates of policy, and description of insured vehicle that includes make, model, and VIN. Anyone found to be driving in Washington without the minimum insurance will be assessed a fine of $450 and possibly push them into a high risk auto insurance policy. Providing false information about insurance carried, such as showing an officer an insurance id card on a policy that has lapsed, despite the dates printed on the card, is a misdemeanor punishable by additional fines and jail time.
